Description of Bux 20 Gunney: Gunney caught our eye at the inaugural 806 Futurity in Amarillo when he was only 8 months old. His flashy paint job, backward horn, big boned frame, and deep, smooth body really stood out. His sire Hubbells 20 Gauge has long been one of our favorite bulls. We did not know much about his dam before the futurity, but we are sure impressed with her and this mating as we have looked into it. First, this maternal line goes back to breed greats BL Rio Catchit and Texana Van Horne. It hasn't been better than these two females over the last decade. Gunney is one of at least six crosses of 20 Gauge and Rio Trio. Their first offspring was a heifer that won a trailer at the Legends Futurity. They then produced two bulls, one of which is a young herd sire for the storied Glendenning Farms herd. Buxton Longhorns used this cross in their embryo program, producing two gorgeous heifers. One of the heifers was Reserve Grand Champion at the 806 futurity. She could have easily been the overall Champion. The other sister didn't have as much wow factor, but some might consider her even more beautiful with her dark chocolate color and smooth body. This is one of the best and most consistent matings we have seen in the longhorn breed, and we are very excited to see what Gunney will do on our mostly unrelated female herd!
